Slowly Updating - Open to Ideas

2/8/2018

It's been a goal of mine to properly post my tutorial on it's own website, and while I created this one years ago for that purpose the amount of work it'd require has daunted me until now. But I'm tired of each tutorial page just linking back to deviantArt version - what if someone wants to download the reference pictures? Or use google translate to read it? Or only has a tiny-screened smartphone with which to view it?

So I've bit the bullet and begun the long process - a lot of work it will be, but I'm already happier with the progress I've made on part 1.

Still, it's more difficult to accomplish this sort of thing alone, and I'd love to hear any opinions or ideas about how the tutorial or this site can be improved. Should I release some of my back-burner wing ideas, put up a poll, and build on stream the design that gets the most votes or shares? Should I implement a forum or message board of some kind here? I haven't seen the need, since most people chat about my wings on their preferred art, costuming, or social media sites already.

I'm pretty open to new ideas and possibilities right now, so if you have one you wish to share please feel free to do so~

I love, love, love your wing tutorial! Because I am a stitcher I have modified the feathers a bit.
Using felt and a felted wallpaper backing material to sandwich the wire with just a bead of glue down the length of the wire to secure it. Then I made the feather covering from satin, I inserted the felted part with wire (you have to kind of roll up the feather to get it thru the small opening of the satin cover at the shaft end) I top stitch all the way around each feather and down around the wire shaft. I also used welding rod for the wire because it is straighter. It was easier than trying to get hanger wire flat.
They are probably much heavier than yours. I also modified the harness to cross over the chest between the breasts and around the waist to compensate for the added weight. I have lots of photos I would love to share. I could email them to you.

That sounds really neat, I'd love to see your results, shoot me an email or fill out the following RWT Results Survey -> http://goo.gl/forms/1CirwY2Krs

And yes, finding already-straight feather-shafts will always be easier than bending curved wire, but it's usually heavier, like you mentioned. Sigh, pros and cons to everything...

I discovered this tutorial on deviantart about 3 years ago. This year I finally decided I had to make some wings! Working on finishing them for Sakuracon in a couple weeks! I just wanted to say that I'm excited to see you continuing on this massive undertaking. And thank you so much for making this tutorial!!! <3
